History of the Patient from official documents The patient, Z., was born in February 1926, and in 1933 at the age of 7 was graded educationally defective. Until 1942 he attended special schools, but he was then charged with "feloniously stealing a plane and two chisels of the value together of twenty-six shillings". This precipitated action under the Mental Deficiency Act, and he was placed under guardianship, the relevant medical certificates including nothing stronger than the following comments:
